Brandi Carlile

Karen and I went to the Brandi Carlile show at Higher Ground Friday. I might add it was a sold out show, and Karen safely scored 2 tix via a guy on Craig's list 2 hours before the show. A girl named Katie Herzig opened for her. She was cute, and had some fun catchy songs. After a wicked long set/instrument whatever they do change. The show opened with Brandi's cellist playing a Metallica song-awesome! She and her band then did a fabulous acapella song to open. Then on with the show! She played a cover of Dylan's "times they are a changin", and a totally unplugged version of her song "dying day". Though she did not play her hidden track "hiding my heart" she played lots of other good ones. Two of her guitarists are twins and they sang "sound of silence". Two thumbs up, if you like her music, she's great in concert! She also had birch trees on stage, love it!

I should note that Higher Ground is pretty much THE major concert venue up here, we don't get big national tours, they go to BOS or Montreal. Higher ground is much like Bogarts in Cincinnati, while it does serve alcohol and food, the overwhelming scent there was not alcohol, or greasy food, not even sweat...it was wood stove smell. no,this place doesn't have a wood stove, i guess that many people have wood stoves at home? i loved it!
